Contemporary African Art Exhibition Series

Welcome to the new 'as it is!' blog.

For those of you who are not familiar with the as it is! project, it is a four part series of Contemporary Art from Africa & The Diaspora curated by Annabelle
Nwankwo-Mu'azu.

This groundbreaking exhibition will be running at The Mojo Gallery, Dubai until March 2011. It will showcase 21 leading and emerging African artists and represent a diverse spectrum of artistic disciplines and include workshops, talks and screenings.

As a gallery we are proud to be involved in a project of this significance. We strive to constantly present artists and work that is compelling, thought provoking and far reaching. To host shows that stimulate the local art scene and hopefully inspire regional artists to look beyond their immediate geography.

We certainly felt the time was right to host an exhibition that recognizes the importance of contemporary African art on the global cultural stage. To give these artists a platform to tell their own stories and hopefully go a long way in challenging the clichéd view of the continent.

Based on the positive response we received from the the first show Africa Uploaded, there is certainly a culturally curious audience in Dubai. And with that in mind we decided to open this forum and invite comment, conversation and debate.

So join our Special Guests and Contributors on the as it is! blog. We welcome your comments and perspectives on this unique event and anything connected to the rich and dynamic world of contemporary African art.
